Your Benefits as an Examiner
✔ Get RCR CPD points for each hour spent examining.
✔ Get CPD certificates to assist you in credentialing.
✔ Help nurture the next generation of Radiology trainees and gain experience teaching.
Preferred Requirements for Examiners
✔ Essential: The FRCR or FRANZCR qualification, as relevant.
✔ An interest in training junior colleagues. Examiners with experience teaching in hospitals or on courses are preferred.
✔ A number of cases suitable to show in a 75-100 minute viva session (around 25 cases). Please see the section below for more details.
✔ A laptop or desktop computer.
✔ A good internet connection with a speed of at least 10 mbps.
✔ A headset or a mic and speaker and a webcam.
✔ Ability to send us cases in DICOM format using Dropbox or a similar online file transfer system.
Getting your cases ready
✔ The standard of cases should match the knowledge of a Radiology trainee at the end of their Specialist training.
✔ As a minimum, you will need enough films for about 75 - 100 minutes of vivas in total (around 25 cases, depending on the level of difficulty).
✔ If you are running a mixed session, try to ensure the cases cover a mixture of modalities. (They should cover all six modules of Chest/MSK/GI/ Gynae-GU-breast/Paeds/Neuro)
✔ The cases should have a mixture of the surgical sieve (Infection, trauma, neoplasia, etc.)
✔ Perhaps you could include 2- 3 different modalities in your packets (CR, CT, MRI, Bariums, Ultrasound or nuclear medicine.)
✔ It’s probably a good idea to get cases that are graduated. We recommend starting with easy cases to build confidence and rapport.
✔ Remember: The candidates may well find your difficult cases easy and vice versa.
✔ Here is a link to a video created by one of our examiners, Jonathan Colledge. This will be useful for Examiners preparing cases on PCs.
✔ Ideally, your cases will be downloaded as DICOM images. You might need help from your PACS manager to get these anonymized.
Patient Name: e.g JOHSMI001
Brief findings: Triple bubble sign (dilated to prox atresia), Jejunal atresia + microcolon Diagnosis and DD if relevant: Jejunal Atresia
Sending us your cases
✔ Please send us your images over the internet using Dropbox, PCloud or another file transfer system such as WeTransfer.com.
✔ We will send you further information on sending us your cases in a future email.
What do we do with your cases?
✔ Your cases are your property. We will not use your cases for any purpose other than for your use in teaching, unless you explicitly give us permission to do so.
✔ We start by downloading all your cases into HOROS.
✔ We run an anonymization protocol to ensure that no patient identifiable information is left on the DICOM files.
(We particularly look out for Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine images as the patient data is often included in the image itself.)
✔ We rename all the files and add your diagnosis and findings from the excel sheet you sent us into the system.
✔ We then upload the images to our online PACS.
✔ We then create permanent links to the cases which will be shared with you. This allows you to use your cases for teaching purposes in the full knowledge that they have been totally anonymized.
✔ We also create links for the course itself that expire in 48 hours - 1 week.
